Hiromi

Hiromi coughed violently, then clutched his chest in pain, the bite helping to bring him fully back to conscienceless.
“Busted ribs,” he thought, ”man is this not going to be fun.”
He gripped the sides of his hospital bed and managed to haul himself into a semi sitting position, albeit with gritted teeth. After a moment, and some painkillers the computer assisted IV automatically pumped into his bloodstream, the sharp pain in his chest subsided into a dull ache. Resting his forehead into his hand he tried to remember what had happened. Bits and pieces came back to him, the Gundam that had blasted him in the chest, and then kicked him, his weakened armor failing to protect him, someone calling out at him over the comm., and finally a vague memory of being essentially cut out of his armor, the mechanism responsible for retracting it grievously damaged.
He swore out loud. “They better not expect me to fix all that shit,” he said to himself.
“Finally, bout time you woke up,” a voice said from the side.
“That you Ian,” Hiromi called out without bothering to look.
“Course it is,” Ian said walking over to the side of his bed. Amber was there as well. “Thought you’d be asleep till next month.”
“Sure getting hit in the chest by a car sized had nothing to do with i…OW!”
Amber hit him in the shoulder, lightly, but enough to send a tremor of pain through his chest. Hiromi thought he saw a hint of concern on her face for a moment before it was swallowed up by a frown.
“Serves you right, making us worry like that, didn’t you tell me to try not getting hit?”
Hiromi took a deep breath and tried to grin. “Guess that makes us even now then.”
She snorted and turned away. Ian grinned and mouthed “Tsundere” to him. Hiromi responded by flipping him off.
“So when can I get out of this bed?”
“Whenever you want,” Ian said. “The Doc injected you with some nano machines or other sciency crap that should mend you up within a day or so. You’re free to walk around but take it slow.”
“No shit,” Hiromi said, pushing the rails on one side down. “Where’s JP?”
“Overseeing repairs,” Ian said as Hiromi gingerly put weight on his feet, the IV still in his arm was mobile and rolled after him. “Fortunately this precinct seems to have its own mechanics, and they seem pretty eager to help after we got mauled our second day here.” The tri left the room and began walking. The hospital corridor was fairly stereotypical , clean looking halls, the faint smell of a mixture of urine and various sterilizing chemicals omnipresent. Ian took a left and began leading towards a lobby.
“Speaking of which, any word on that Gundam?”
“Brass said they’d never seen it before,” Amber replied, obviously angry about the fact.
“I’ve been giving some leeway on our next move,” Ian said thoughtfully. We’ll have a pow wow later on how we answer this bastard, but I he’ll defiantly be the main focus of our next case.”
“We hurt him at least,” Hiromi said. “Think he’ll be a bit more wary about another encounter?”
“Not enough info,” Ian said. “For all we know we may have taken out his only beam cannon. Or well you did anyway.”
“I think we’d be better off not assuming anything,” Amber said somberly.
Hiromi nodded. “I’m going to need to see video of the fight, I was kinda unconscious for most of it.”
“It’s already waiting in your room.”
“I’d also like this thing out of my arm,” he said gesturing to the IV.
“That’s your call,” he said with a grin, “I aint touching it.”
“I’ll do it myself then.”
Amber sighed, “then you’ll get an infection, then they’ll take your arm and you’ll be even worse at piloting, I’ll do it.”
“I’ll be fine, seriously it’s yanking a needle out, not surgery.”
“Wasn’t giving you the choice,” she snapped. “And if you do do it I’ll cut off your arm myself.”
Hiromi rolled his eyes as far back as possible. “Fine whatever knock yourself out.”
“Well we need to do it before we can leave,” she said. “Hold still and I’ll do it real quick.”
She pulled out some antiseptic cloth and a bandage from her pocket. With a clean pull she took the catheter out, quickly applying the cloth over his arm, wrapping the bandage over it and covering it with gauze. While she worked Hiromi looked away, blushing slightly. Ian chuckled to himself at the sight.
“You carry those around everywhere you go or something,” Hiromi asked.
“She’s been here keeping an eye on you ever since they brought you in,” Ian said, smirking. “Must have picked it up at some point.”
“I recall you asking me to watch him,” she growled. “Quit making it sound like something else.”
“Heh, sure whatever. We can leave now Hiro, I’ll get your wheelchair ready first…”
“Hope you got well acquainted with this place Ian, cause you’re about to live here.”
“No one ever appreciates my sincere offers of help,” Ian sighed. “Very well, car’s out front, unless you feel like jogging back…”
“I swear to God Ian I don’t have the energy left to tell you to shut the hell up.”
“Allow me then,” Amber said. “Ian, shut the hell up.”
“Oh great no you two are ganging up on me.”
